In every province and territory, health care is governed primarily by provincial and federal legislation. Jurisprudence is vital to increasing awareness and understanding of how legislation impacts nursing practice in Nova Scotia.

All new applicants, as well as registrants returning from leave, must confirm they have reviewed and understand the Jurisprudence Resource Guide by checking the required boxes and providing a signature below.

I have reviewed and understand the information in Part 1 of the Jurisprudence Resource Guide (Jurisprudence, the Nursing Act, and Regulatory Policies).

I have reviewed and understand the information in Part 2 of the Jurisprudence Resource Guide (Provincial and Federal Legislation).

I understand I am responsible to be knowledgeable about regulatory policy and all relevant provincial and federal legislation, and how these requirements impact my nursing practice in Nova Scotia.

I understand that I must seek guidance from my preceptor, a colleague, or my supervisor if I have questions about my practice.

I understand I must hold an active license to practice as a nurse in Nova Scotia.

I understand I may not practice as a nurse if my Nova Scotia license has expired.

I understand that conditional licenses expire four months from the date they are issued and all practicing licenses expire on October 31st each year.

I understand I must renew my Nova Scotia license before it expires, as practicing without a valid license can result in disciplinary action.
