Update on the Amalgamation with the Midwifery Regulatory Council of Nova Scotia
The MRCNS Council and the NSCN Board held a special joint meeting on March 31st and approved several important governance decisions to prepare for the new multi-profession regulator.
Among other things, an agenda has been set for the first board meeting post-amalgamation to enable immediate approvals required under the new Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA). This will ensure we are fully operational and fulfilling our mandate as a new multi-profession regulator as soon as possible.
The Council and Board also approved processes for selection of the initial Board, Chair, and Vice-Chair. Stay tuned for more information in May.

Acknowledging African Nova Scotian Communities
NSCN has created an acknowledgement honouring historic African Nova Scotian Communities and recognizing their significant contributions. African Nova Scotians from 52 communities have been a vital part of this province for more than 400 years, coming to Nova Scotia through enslavement or in search of freedom. Their presence long predates the formation of Canada itself, and their contributions have shaped the cultural, social and economic fabric of this province and country.
The Province of Nova Scotia recognizes African Nova Scotians as a founding culture. We honour their enduring resistance, resilience and contributions and acknowledge their sacrifices and the historic and ongoing impacts of systemic racism that impacts their health, well-being and ability to succeed.
Our acknowledgement is an important step forward and is an explicit statement to NSCN’s commitment to creating change for African Nova Scotians. We will work towards implementing strategies to address discrimination, break down systemic and institutional racism, and advance equity.
