NSCN is committed to a right-touch regulatory approach, one that is Future-focused, proportionate and responsive. That means we apply the minimum amount of regulatory intervention needed to achieve a desired income and we take actions to protect the public without over-regulating and creating unnecessary burdens.
NSCN developed Regulatory Guiding Principles to support consistent, innovative, and principled decision-making that better serves the public. While the principles will be phased in across all facets of NSCN’s regulatory work, the current focus is the application of the principles to our conduct processes that address concerns about nursing practice.
To support the implementation of the Regulatory Guiding Principles, NSCN proactively engaged an independent third-party consultant to review existing professional conduct processes, using the new guiding principles as the standard.
“This independent analysis reflects our commitment to accountability and ongoing improvement,” says NSCN CEO & Registrar, Douglas Bungay. “It will help us ensure our conduct processes are proportionate and that we use our resources as effectively as possible. The goal is to apply our new guiding principles in ways that enable us to better serve the public and support nursing practice. We look forward to the report that will be shared publicly in September.”
The outcome of the analysis is a comprehensive Regulatory Impact Assessment Report, that includes findings and a summary of recommendations for further enhancement. Stay tuned for the full report in the September newsletter.
