On May 1st, 2023, NSCN implemented a new approach to registration and licensure to establish a fast and predictable pathway to licensure in Nova Scotia. Registered nurses who demonstrated good standing and good character, licensed in Canada, the Philippines, India, Nigeria, USA, UK, Australia, or New Zealand, were eligible for NSCN’s expedited registration and licensure process. While this pathway is temporarily paused pending evaluation findings, applications that were previously submitted are still being processed.
In alignment with its commitment to making evidence informed decisions, NSCN implemented a formal evaluation process for those who were licensed through the expedited registration and licensure process. Evaluations remain ongoing and are taking place over a 24-month period, at six-month intervals.
NSCN is pleased to release its third interim report, which evaluates those who were licensed between May 1, 2024 and October 31, 2024.
The reported data was collected through various sources including an online survey, the NSCN website analytics, the NSCN practice database, a Verification of Registration Request Tracking tool, the NSCN registrant portal, and through the Nova Scotia Health Learning Institute for Health Care Providers.
A final evaluation of the Direct International Registration and Licensing process is expected later in the spring of 2025.
