We are seeking feedback on the newly developed practice support tool Nursing Scope of Practice Guideline. A link has been provided to the draft document. To provide feedback, please review the draft document and complete a brief online survey.
Background on Consultation
Understanding the scope of practice of all nurses is essential in ensuring teams work effectively.
This is a new practice guideline providing information for all nurses regarding their professional scope of practice, individual scope of practice and scope of employment. This resource is intended to be used when nurses are considering if an intervention or competency falls within their scope of practice and if they should perform the intervention.
This new guideline combines relevant information regarding scope of practice from the following current NSCN practice support tools:
- Adding Interventions to a Nurse's Individual Scope of Practice or Role
- Advanced Nursing Practice
- Effective Utilization of RNs and LPNs
- Guidelines for Licensed Practical Nurses: Scope of Practice
We are requesting feedback from nurses, managers, employers and members of the public to ensure we have developed a relevant and useful tool that will support nurses to provide safe, competent, compassionate and ethical nursing services.
Consultation Next Steps
Feedback received through this consultation will inform the content of the guideline as appropriate. We plan to have the final guideline available to registrants, employers and the public on our website by November 2020.
