Cultural Safety and Humility

Nurses in Nova Scotia provide services to clients from a wide range of cultures and must ensure they have the knowledge and competence to provide culturally safe and competent care. We have revised this position statement to help all nurses understand their role in relation to cultural humility leading to a culturally safe nursing environment. This tool will help nurses better understand their accountabilities in culture safety and humility related to clients’ individual culture, maintaining and enhancing humility, collaborating with stakeholders to develop a culturally safe environment and providing culturally safe and competent care.
