The duty to provide care is a nurse’s ethical, legal and professional obligation to provide clients with safe, competent, compassionate and ethical nursing services. This duty applies to every aspect of the nurse-client relationship. We developed the Duty to Provide Care Practice Guideline to define these duties and to provide guidance for all nurses.
