The Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) launched Nursys Canada on June 12, 2025. Nursys Canada is a public safety feature that enables participating Canadian regulatory bodies to access real-time regulatory information of applicants who have been registered and licensed as a nurse in the US and elsewhere in Canada. NSCN, like other regulatory bodies, relies on regulatory information from other jurisdictions when making registration and licensing decisions of its applicants.
Recognized by Health Canada as a national priority with a $2.5 million investment, Nursys Canada will also assist in better understanding the national workforce in addition to supporting the overall safety of the public. NSCN has been working toward implementation of Nurses Canda since 2024 and joins nursing regulators in British Columbia, Ontario, and the Yukon as Canadian users. Other Canadian nursing regulators will implement in a phased approach.
The original Nursys database was developed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). Nursys Canada is a stand-alone, secure, Canadian-based system. It complies with Canadian privacy laws and best practices in data security.
