Administration of Medications: A Self-Assessment Guide

Safe medication administration requires knowledge of pharmacology, client assessment, standards and agency policies. It also requires the knowledge, skill and judgment related to safe practice. Ongoing self-assessments of competence, reflective practice and participation in continuing education activities are also important components of the process. We developed this practice guideline for LPNs to perform a self-assessment of their medication administration competence.
