Nurse Practitioners Prescribing Medical Cannabis Practice Guideline for NPs

Under the Cannabis Regulations, nurse practitioners (NPs) are defined as health care practitioners authorized to prescribe medical cannabis for clients requiring this controlled substance as part of their treatment plan. NPs in Nova Scotia who have the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities are authorized to prescribe medical cannabis as part of their scope of practice. We developed this practice guideline to help NPs understand their accountabilities related to prescribing cannabis.
