July 18, 2018
On July 18, 2018, the Complaints Committee of the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia (CRNNS) ordered, pursuant to s. 58(3)(d) of the Registered Nurses Regulations, and with the consent of Ms. Ramey, that she receive a reprimand for violating professional boundaries by accepting three financial gifts from a patient totalling $7,000.00 over the course of approximately 16 months.
The Complaints Committee determined that Ms. Ramey’s conduct violated professional boundaries, and that she failed to maintain an appropriate professional and therapeutic relationship with the patient.
Ms. Ramey demonstrated insight and expressed significant remorse. The Committee determined that Ms. Ramey breached the Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses and the Code of Ethics, and that these breaches constituted professional misconduct.
On August 22, 2018, Ms. Ramey consented to the reprimand.
