Reprimand
July 23, 2020
On July 23, 2020, the Complaints Committee of the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) issued a decision regarding a complaint filed against Catherine MacDonald, LPN, Registration No. 12722. The Committee ordered that Ms. MacDonald receive a reprimand. The Committee ordered the reprimand pursuant to section 76(1)(e) of the Nursing Act and with Ms. MacDonald’s consent.
In June 2018, Ms. MacDonald failed to adequately assess and provide care to a resident with abnormally low blood pressure. Ms. MacDonald also failed to consult and collaborate with a RN in the situation.
Ms. MacDonald demonstrated insight and expressed remorse. Ms. MacDonald also underwent satisfactory remedial education provided by her employer.
The Committee determined that Ms. MacDonald’s admitted conduct constituted breaches of the Standards of Practice for Licenced Practical Nurses, and that these breaches would reasonably be regarded by the profession as professional misconduct.
On July 29, 2020, Ms. MacDonald consented to the reprimand.
